I Write Spells, Not Poetry
We have reached the end of the 30-day writing challenge! As someone who typically doesn’t participate in such challenges — mainly because I often err on the side of being too disciplined and find it more difficult to be spontaneous and break my routine — I particularly enjoyed this one.
I often feel that my Medium platform tends to be too much of the same type of thing. Over the years, I have settled into a specific writing style and niche that does not include much creative work. But this challenge allowed me to explore topics that were outside of my comfort zone, which I found refreshing.
Now, it’s likely that we will return to our regularly scheduled programming, as many pressing issues in the world of artificial intelligence, social media, and capitalism have been on my mind and my heart. But for now, thank you for joining me on this journey, and let’s celebrate 30 for 30!
“I Write Spells, Not Poetry” by FJDay
Tonight, I feast on the fantasy of my feelings for you
I listen to the lyrics that let me lie to myself
While making the most of memories that I could never miss
Tonight, I clarify all the confusion you created
I pick up the pieces of the puzzle and take pictures
Gluing together one last glimmer of the good
Tonight, I return to myself and remember
To sign and send your secrets back to you
And I will never forget the death of December
Or the heat in your hands as we bid adieu
