Kudos to being a Medievalist and your comment reminds me of a few articles that I have written on Medium about the relationship between the genre of Romance, fandom, and various culture industries because I think that romance and true crime are two genres that prioritize female fans. Specifically, I think that Janice Radway does a really good job of discussing female fandom and the book publishing industry i.e. "Reading the Romance: Women, Patriarchy, and Popular Literature".
