Manifestation, Moon Water, and Marx
As a writer, I often find myself thinking through my essays before I actually publish them, to the point that I am constantly editing essays in my mind. I also tend to discuss them as if they are already written, even when they are still sitting in my drafts, and this is one of those essays.
I started to wonder what Marx would think about manifestation almost a year ago, as I reflected on my experiences with spiritual entrepreneurs. For those who don’t know, spiritual entrepreneurship is part of the shift away from hustle and grind culture toward pursuing a career with purpose. Spiritual entrepreneurs often see themselves as individuals doing work aligned with a higher calling or life path, and we frequently see spiritually minded entrepreneurs focused on how they can give back to their community and others.
And while this is wonderful, just like any form of entrepreneurship, not everyone should be a spiritual entrepreneur. And yet, because the idea is framed through the lens of “living your purpose,” there are people who will leave behind their jobs to start businesses that they aren’t prepared…
