Medium Day Made Me Embrace Being a Messayist
Even though I’ve been writing on Medium for over three years, I always look forward to attending Medium Day because it allows me to learn more about the platform and myself. As I planned my schedule for the event, I noticed a recurring theme in the sessions I chose to attend. Most of the talks focused on memoir writing and featured tips from professional writers in media and technology. This theme resonated with me as I often find myself at a crossroads when writing Medium posts.
As a writer and researcher, I have several years of experience studying how people construct their identities online and contemplating the implications of being human in the social media era. Simultaneously, I have endured a lifetime of traumatic experiences and spiritual awakenings stemming from years of addiction and an unconventional upbringing. This background has driven me to write about my experiences on Medium. However, I have often struggled to define myself and the kind of content I produce. Before attending Medium Day, I lacked the words to articulate what I was going through.
