New Year Devolution: Why Writers Should Resolve to Break the Rules

I’ve been dedicating my free time to consuming as much content as possible to cope with the ongoing discussions about a potential TikTok ban. As a result, during my New Year’s travels, I found myself watching TikToks and exploring how New Year’s resolutions and recommendations could influence the algorithm.

While there are many videos of people beginning their weight loss journeys, participating in programs like 75 Hard, or creating vision boards and plans for self-improvement, I’ve noticed even more content from individuals who intentionally resist typical self-improvement schemes. From embracing their flaws to rejecting societal pressures, I’ve enjoyed watching those committed to becoming more authentic versions of themselves — even if that means being a little less polished or “better” in the traditional sense.

Therefore, I wanted to explore some of the typical New Year’s resolutions for writers and offer some thoughts about doing the opposite of what is expected.
