Poem #18 — “I Am Me, I Am Me Not”
Every now and again, I enjoy participating in writing workshops geared towards women of color to expand my toolkit in nonfiction and poetry writing.
The following poem is part of a poetry writing exercise I did in one of Alexis Pauline Gumbs’ workshops. I hope you enjoy it and perhaps explore the exercise for yourself.
“I Am Me, I Am Me Not” by FJDay
I am the wound and water and forever flowing.
I am the heart and soul and forever growing.
I am the front and back and forever losing.
I am the up and down and forever grooving.
I am the sound and silence and forever soothing.
I am the past and future and forever moving.
I am the air and fire and forever blowing.
I am the pain and pleasure and forever glowing.
I am the peace and chaos, forever knowing.
I am the here and now, forever sowing.
