The Dating Game: What I Learned from Watching “Woman of the Hour” and Working with AI
Although I enjoy watching horror movies throughout the year, especially during the spooky season, I usually prefer family-focused films from October to December. As a result, I didn’t plan to watch anything scarier than “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” this season. That changed when I saw the trailer for Netflix’s latest horror thriller, “Woman of the Hour.”
For those who don’t know, “Woman of the Hour” is a film based on the true story of Rodney Alcala, colloquially known as “The Dating Game Killer” because he was a serial killer who won the 1970s TV show “The Dating Game.” As somebody who follows the many podcasts, documentaries, and shows about true-crime narratives in American and European history, I wanted to see if the film would incorporate the ethics of true crime in storytelling by highlighting the experiences of survivors rather than solely focusing on victims.
