The Subtle Art of Channeling Creative Desire
Every year, I work on a long-term project that establishes a theme I want to see unfold over the twelve months. In 2024, I wrote a series of essays focused on exploring the connection between memoirs and personal essays. However, this past year, I have also been sharing more of my poetry and studying the work of female artists who inspire me.
Consequently, I have gone down several rabbit holes with women who discuss their art through the lens of desire. At the moment, a conversation is unfolding online about women artists discussing limerance and the role of desire in limiting creation. Some believe that obsession with romantic interests or external objects keeps one from creating. However, in my work and the work of others, longing and desire are the lifeblood of art for many artists.
