Last week, Twitter sent out a notice on the app letting everyone know that they were updating their terms of service and privacy policy. These updates are a regular occurrence for social media platforms, and I am sure that many of us have received an email or entry message about policy changes that would go into effect on a site. For most users, these policy changes go unchecked and I believe that most companies assume that users aren’t actually going to read them.

However, as an internet researcher who is more than a little obsessed with privacy policies and trying to catch a platform slippin’, I immediately read through the notice in order to unpack what was changing and why.

After taking my time to read up on all of the changes, I have included a breakdown of the privacy policy and what it means for users of the app. You can also find the updated privacy policy HERE and according to Twitter the changes will go into full effect on August 19, 2021.

I hope that in reading through these changes, and my responses to them, you are encouraged to analyze all future changes to terms of service and privacy policies that you come across online.
